Margam Country Park

Despite the mountain bike race at Margam CP today, there was plenty to see including this Reed Bunting nest with its beautifully marked eggs tucked away in a tussock of Purple Moor-grass. A Grasshopper Warbler was reeling away in the heat of the mid-day sun along with the more usual Whitethroats and Skylarks.
As a child I remember finding nests of Yellowhammer nests, which locally we called 'Scribblyjacks' because of the markings of the eggs, these being similar in this respect to those of the Reed Bunting.
