Mick Fordy sent me this image of one of our most unusual lepidopteran larvae, the Lobster Moth (Stauropus fagi), which he discovered whilst working in his Llanmadoc garden this week. This moth gets its name from bizarre crustacean-like appearance of the caterpillar rather than the adult moth.
Note that this is an early instar larva and is likely to grow three or four times this size.
